FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

The pre-season training is now complete and our series of practice games are done and dusted. We eagerly await the start of the season on Saturday. The club is looking forward to participating in Premier C and hopefully regain that winning feeling around the club again.

The club will be fielding 9 teams. Seniors, Reserves, Third 18, Senior Women’s, Senior Women’s Reserves, Under 19 Blues, Under 19 Blacks, FIDA Blue and FIDA White.

The Senior and Reserve teams will be fielding relatively young and inexperienced teams, I encourage all our stakeholders to come along to watch our games, give support to the players as we endeavour to regain respect in the Premier C competition.

New Senior Coach Dylan Cousins and his Assistant coaches have worked extremely hard throughout the pre-season on a new game plan, a plan that we are confident will make us more than competitive however it might take the group a bit of time to implement the plan. Please be patient!

The club held its inaugural Season Launch last Friday night with over 120, guests, supporters, players past & present in attendance. It was a great way to start off the season and we hope that this night will get bigger and better in the years ahead.

I would like to thank the Sponsorship sub-committee for their efforts in working towards securing Sponsors, it is a tough, time consuming job. To Des Morgan, Matt Morley, Dean Bray and in particular Simon Grady who worked tirelessly for the first 5 months to secure new and existing Sponsorships. Unfortunately Simon has stood down from the role, we are grateful for his time, drive and enthusiasm towards such a tough job. We also extend our thanks to Simon for his kind and generous donation of a $ 3000 travel voucher that the club will use as a major raffle prize this year. Thanks Binga.

The club would also like to thank Wayne Poulter for his service to coaching at the club for the last 6 years. Wayne served as a Senior Assistant and more recently as the Reserves coach. Wayne has unfortunately had to stand down as  coach due to increased work commitments. Wayne has helped develop many of our young players and pushed them up for Senior selection. We wish Wayne well in the future and look forward to seeing him down at the club sharing an Ouzo and coke with us. Thanks Poults.

The club is thrilled to announce that Paul McDonald will take over as Reserves Coach with Tim McEniry as his Assistant coach. We thank both of these men for stepping to the roles at such short notice and wish them all the best for the season ahead.

I hope to see as many supporters as we can at our games.

GO NODDAS !

This year after Mazenod Panthers Home Games we will be having a combined White and Blue team ‘After Match’ celebration.

At the After Match Celebration our coaches will review the day’s games and hand out a new award for a player in each team. The "Spirit of the Panther" award will be awarded by the coaches to that player who best exemplifies the Mazenod Panther spirit.  This award kindly donated by the Regan family.

We would love all White Team players to stay on and watch the Blue Team's game and then enjoy a sausage sizzle (gold coin donation). The canteen will remain open to purchase soft drinks and water.

Practice Match v Sandown, Sunday 31st March

Congratulations to all players who participated in our first practice match in a number of years.  A Mazenod combine team (Div 2/3/4) took on a Sandown Div 2 / 3 team and acquitted themselves well. It was fantastic to see the endeavour from all players and great to see some of our new recruits on the ground for the first time as well.

Panther’s Fundraiser

Many thanks to club legend Steven ‘Butch’ Paolucci who lead our fundraising effort at Bunnings Notting Hill on 30th March. Many thanks to the all the volunteers on the day (many hands certainly meant the load was well and truly shared).  Many thanks to Matt Fregon MP who came down to lend a hand as well as Mardi Scott from Waverley Toyota. The day also enjoyed considerable support from the Tej and Gobind Jholl. Further we were thrilled to welcome Emma Raymond, Liam Riley and Josh Cowan from Mazenod Cricket Club who came down to lend a hand.

One of the Club's most treasured volunteers, Peter Fisher, celebrated his 75th birthday yesterday. And where was he on this fantastic occasion??? Yep, down at the Club helping out as always on a Thursday night with meals and cleaning up. The entire playing group sang Happy Birthday to "Fish" and acknowledged his wonderful work. Happy 75th Birthday Peter.

Our first Thursday back in the rooms saw a huge turn out of players, parents and supporters. Our thanks to Maria Cappello and Flora Palleschi for organising the fantastic meal and also to Cath Backhouse and Jen McKenna for their great help.

FURTHER HELP REQUIRED

We have some incredible volunteers that give so much to our Club and we are appreciative of their time and effort. We will be seeking additional support from all teams and their families across the season so that the workload is shared and people's enjoyment of being involved is maintained. Get involved and play your part in our push for success both on field and off in 2019.

Thursday Meals

Each team will be allocated a couple of weeks during the season where parents, partners or friends can get involved in arranging a meal for the players and supporters after training. This is a great way to get to know people a bit better and to get an insight into what takes place behind the scenes within the Club. Rosie Welsford (our 2018 Clubperson of the Year) will be coordinating the the dates, so please support her with the dates allocated to your son or daughter's team.

Match Day Roles

The strength of our Club is the willingness of our parents and supporters to get involved on match days to help out with the large number of volunteer jobs. We still need roles to be filled for the coming season and would love to hear from anyone that would like to assist with any of the following volunteer roles:

  • boundary umpires
  • goal umpires
  • team managers
  • time keepers
  • scoreboard operator
