RESERVES

Mazenod 6.4.40 def by Uni Blacks 11.9.75

Heading to Uni Blacks is always a tough challenge, but we were excited to see where we stood early on the year. We matched their intensity in the first quarter but were lucky they missed some shots on goal. The 2nd quarter was a good battle as both teams put on a couple of goals. Going into half time 6 points down we thought we had a great chance.
Uni blacks came out firing after half time and quickly put on 4 unanswered goals before we got 2 back ourselves. The last quarter we were a bit more spent than they were, and finished up going down by 35 points. Overall some very pleasing signs against a team we know will be right up there for the flag. Now looking forward to work on some things and getting a win on the board this Saturday against a long time rival in Ajax.

Goal Kickers: T. Cincotta 2, F. Palleschi, M. Acciarito, J. Murdock, C. Martino
Best Players: D. Wiles, J. Charman, T. McDonald, W. Campbell, B. Riley, D. Fowler

THIRDS

Mazenod 13.9.87 def St Mary's Salesian 9.9.63

The 3rds got off to a slow start conceding the first two goals, ut quickly found our mojo and were able to add 7 unanswered goals, to have a handy lead at half time.  The second half looked like an episode of Master Chef, with many players cooked, and some obviously underdone. But the cream rose to the top with strong 4 quarter efforts from Reed, Walton, Mann and Hansen.  Our strength was our tackling with strong repeated efforts from Davis (he is scary) Gilbert, Hansen and Kaye.  Special mention to Travis O'Hara who rucked all day in a close to BOG effort. Our numbers are growing but we are still short on match day support staff, so lets make an effort to get our family or friends to help on match days to ensure that we can take the field with a full compliment of umpiring and time keeping personnel.

Goal Kickers: F. Reed 4, P. Iacovangelo 3, S. Davis 3, R. Kaye 2, D. MacLeod
Best Players: T. O''Hara, S. Davis, F. Reed, S. Mann, P. Gilbert, P. Iacovangelo

BLACKS

Mazenod 6.6.42 def by St Kevins 17.12.114

We opened the game well with 4 goals and had some really good passages of play. Strong ruck work by Brendon Wales and well supported by Mat Stoj and John Backhouse. The half back line stood up well and kept us in front at ¼ time by a goal.

The second quarter SKOB got themselves a little more organised and moved the ball forward more often and got in front by 10 points at the half time break. Our run slowed off and showed that we were relying heavily on 7-8 players. Intensity at the ball was great and tenacity could not be questioned.

We were competitive and were in the game until midway through the 3rd quarter when SKOB really ramped up the play and we had no answers to their bigger bodies, but to be 25 points down at ¾ time gave us some chance, I also challenged our lads that we needed to win the last quarter.

The last quarter is where it really hurt us, as SKOB got rolling, we started folding with injuries. Considering we had 4 players playing their first game, 1 coming back from long term injury and we were up against an ungraded SKOB team, the final score didn’t reflect the effort the lads put in.

Awesome to see some famous Mazenod names returning the field last weekend. Several players made their debut in the famous "Black, White & Blue" - Molly Noone & Lachlan Noone, Jack Neil, Zach Fisher, Tom Boyle, Tess Riley amongst a number of other new faces. THURSDAY NIGHT MEALS

The Club is seeking assistance from someone to coordinate the Thursday night meals. Over recent years we have had wonderful support from parents and partners in providing a shared meal for the post-training get together in the social rooms. The role of coordinator is simply to contact parents and partners and develop a roster across the season. We have had some incredibly generous support in the past and we would love to see that continue for the coming season. The person coordinating does not need to be there every week and plenty of assistance will be made available. If interested, cold you please contact either Paddy McKenna admin@mazenodfc.com.au / 0433 282 445 or Kelly Van Os social@mazenodfc.com.au / 0430 320 662.
