President’s Welcome

Welcome to 2020.

First and foremost, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the 40 people who have come forward over the last 2 months to take on a significant role at the Nodders in 2020. In addition to our Executive and General Committee, we have another 8 who have joined the Sponsorship Committee, 6 people on the newly formed Grants committee and 5 who have agreed to oversee the Mazenodian-Club 200 Campaign. This group join a wonderful existing volunteer workforce of our 40 people, and together we will help ensure Mazenod has a great season on and off the field.

Because we prioritise development of our players in all of our teams whether they be Senior men, Ressies or Club 18, Women’s, Under 19 or FIDA we have committed that every team will have a lead coach and 3 line coaches in 2020. We are finalising these positions at the moment and are looking forward to all of our teams having great on-field support this year.

I believe deeply in our Vision statement that ‘Mazenod is More than a club’. So much of what we do is enriching the lives of people in our community, not just playing football. While football is a key measurement of our club I am excited to announce we are just in the final stages of releasing our Positive Mental Heath Framework. It is unique for football clubs in Australia. We will share more details of this over the coming weeks.

Thankyou in advance to everyone who is going to be a part of the Nodders in 2020. I’m excited for what is going to be a fantastic year.

Gerard Noone

President

Following our first home game against Old Geelong we are looking for all teams, Senior, Ressies, Club 18, Women’s and Under 19s to be back at the club enjoying a burger, listening to some ‘tunes’ and launching our 2020 season. Most importantly we invite all parents of our players and all the Clubbies who have children to bring them along. We are expecting over 300 people for what promises to be a great way to kick off the season.

Upcoming Football Milestones

We wanted to give our players and supporters a sneak preview of upcoming playing milestones.

250 games: Steve Mann

Did you know that Steve Mann, our current Club 18 skipper is on 247 games and will only be the 8th Maz player in 41 years to hit the 250 early in the season, assuming his ageing body holds up for another three games?

200 games

His little brother Rob our current senior co-captain is on 197 games and will hit the 200 in round 3. Rumoured comeback kid Dale Micallef is on 194 games and club legend Pat Johnson is 197. It would be great to see both hit the ground in 2020 reach 200.

First female to play 50 games. Claudia McGuire

Claudia is on 44 games. It is only fitting that our Inaugural Womens team co-Captain and Best and Fairest is due to hit the 50 game milestone this year. Another well-deserved first for Claudia.

150 games

Interestingly Pat Flanagan is on 140 games and Paul Iacovangelo is on 143 games. Hopefully these milestones might ignite a motivation to play in 2020.

100 games..

Daniel Wiles 99 games, Frances Palleschi 93 games, Brad Kovac 92 games, Tom Patterson 90 games, Pete Rozanitis 90 games.

Important Player Information

VAFA- Advantage program: $11.00 per player

The VAFA have announced that all 14,000 players will be charged $11.00 each when they register to play in the VAFA in 2020. Branded as the VAFA Advantage program this will entitle all VAFA players to receive discounts from sponsors. No player can play in the VAFA without paying this fee. The VAFA is the last competition in Victoria to charge this fee with the EFL charging $25 per player.

Private Health Insurance

All Mazenod players are reminded that the Club does not provide private Medical health insurance for our players. We strongly recommend that all players take out private medical coverage in 2020.
